- Thesis
- The distribution, recruitment and movement of fish in the Queensland Lake Eyre and Bulloo-Bancannia Basins.
- Description
Adam has been sampling fish at up to 40 sites in 8 catchments since 2006 in the Bulloo, Kyabra, Thomson, Barcoo, Cooper, Diamantina, Georgina and Mulligan catchments in western Queensland. This area represents all catchments in Queensland west of the Murray-Darling Basin and includes areas that have either never been studied before (such as the ephemeral Mulligan River in the Simpson Desert), as well as those that are very poorly known (like the Georgina in the west and the Bulloo in the east).
As well as recording range extensions for several widespread species in the Mulligan River, the sampling has also demonstrated range extensions throughout the study area, most notably for redclaw crayfish, which are not native to the Lake Eyre Basin but have been translocated by both government agencies (for aquaculture) and recreational fishers (for bait).
