Resources
The Australian Rivers Institute has facilities at the Nathan (Brisbane) and Gold Coast campuses of Griffith University. Established facilities and equipment include
Nathan campus
A range of well-equipped laboratories for microscopy (including epifluorescence), soil and sediment research, population genetics and DNA analysis, aquatic chemistry and microbiology (with PC2 facility), plus wet- and dry-sample processing areas.
Our major facilities include a tilting flume and rainfall simulator, stable isotope mass spectrometers and other instrumentation, and a field research station in the Conondale Ranges to the north of Brisbane. We also have several 4-wheel drive vehicles, small boats and a large array of field sampling and camping equipment.
Gold Coast campus
The laboratories at the Gold Coast are equipped with state-of-the-art analytical equipment, including
- a total organic carbon analyser;
- chemical oxygen demand analyser;
- inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer;
- gas chromatograph mass spectrometer;
- solvent extraction system; and
- nutrient analyser.
A Class 1000 clean room, radioisotope laboratory and constant temperature rooms are also available. Field work is supported by a number of four-wheel drive vehicles and small boats.
