Warming to the idea: Using ecological modernisation to enhance Australia's response to climate change
Funding body: Griffith University Research Grant
Project leader: Michael Howes
Project members: Peter Daniels, Jason Byrne
Project description: This project takes an innovative interdisciplinary approach to the analysis and improvement of Australia's response to climate change. It is founded upon the program of ecological modernisation that advocates the decoupling of economic growth from environmental damage through careful institutional and technical transformation. This program underpins environmental policy, planning, and management, yet there is a lack of research applying it to global warming. This project develops and proposes improvements to Australia's climate response, fills a significant gap in the literature with a series of international journal articles, creates new analytical tools, and constructs a uniquely Australian variant of ecological modernisation.
Expected outputs: Several journal articles, an URP Research Paper, and an ARC grant application
Status: Ongoing in 2009
Developing a modular urban land use and transport tool
Funding body: Volvo Foundation (Sweden) via colloboration with the Australasian Centre for the Governance and Management of Urban Transport (RMIT)
Project leader: Matthew Burke
Project members: Rick Evans, Neil Sipe, Jago Dodson and Brendan Gleeson
Project description: This project develops a 'modular urban land use and transport tool'. MULUTT will 'add-on' to traditional transport models allowing for additional project assessment focussed on collective and active transport, and incorporating sustainability criteria.
Expected outputs: Report to funding body, conference papers, journal articles
Status: Ongoing in 2009
