Measuring child travel and outdoor play
Funding body: Queensland Health and Griffith University
Project leader: Matthew Burke
Project members: Rick Evans, Joanne Pascoe and Zenon Hextall
Project description: The MC-TOP pilot project seeks to identify best-practice approaches for the capture of spatial information on the travel behaviour and outdoor play of children in complex urban environments. MC-TOP aims are to establish appropriate ethical protocols, to test the suitability of survey methods and technology, and to identify human and environmental factors that may affect the collection of quality spatial datasets. This work will open new unexplored areas of research into child travel behaviour and physical activity that should lead directly to an ARC Discovery grant application in March 2008.
Expected outputs: Report to funding bodies and preparation of ARC discovery research proposal
Status: Phase one completed December 2008, Phase two ongoing in 2009
