The URP has led a resurgence of interest in child friendly cities in Australia. This work has joined an international conversation on children in urban environments sponsored by bodies such as the United Nations (UN - Child Friendly Cities) and European states and cities (European Network Child Friendly Cities).
The URP hosted Australia's first national symposium on child friendly cities in Brisbane in 2004, and co hosted subsequent symposia in Sydney in 2006 (with ARACY) and Brisbane in 2008.
