  • Overseas exchange opportunities

Each year, several Griffith planning students take up the opportunity to do one or two semesters of their degree at an overseas university. In recent years, students have studied in the UK, the USA, Canada, Austria, France, Denmark and Finland.
“During the second year of studying the urban and environmental planning degree at Griffith University I was presented with the opportunity to undertake a semester on exchange with the option to choose from universities in three different countries. Following my application being approved, I arrived at the University of East Anglia in Norwich, where I studied a diverse range of subjects including globalisation, waste management and resource conservation. World map on blackboardI found the experience of living and studying overseas highly valuable for my future career, and upon my return I was able to share my experiences with my fellow classmates. Participating in the exchange program significantly broadened my understanding of global issues and contributed to my knowledge concerning planning and areas that planners could potentially work in. The highlight of my exchange experience was the opportunity to travel throughout Europe and the United Kingdom following the completion of the semester. I would strongly recommend undertaking an exchange program if the opportunity arises.”
Tracy Clark, 2009 Bachelor of Urban and Environmental Planning graduate

    Planning Institute of Australia Awards

Five Griffith urban and environmental planning students recently won awards for planning excellence from the Planning Institute of Australia for their 2010 achievements. This is a credit to the students and their teachers, and recognition of the quality of the planning program. It is notable that all the recipients were women (redressing a long-standing gender imbalance in planning) and also that one award winner, Ms Julie Hunter, has won a prize for every year she spent in the program.
