Research Expertise

  • Ecological and physiological processes involved in benthic algal blooms on coral reefs, including herbivory, nutrient enhancement, coral disturbances and algal recruitment.
  • Impacts of global climate change on coral reef ecosystems, in particular the effects of increased CO2, ocean acidification and warming on benthic algae, coral-algal interactions and reef processes.
  • Roles of benthic algae in coral reef recovery and resilience.
  • Broad interest in population and community ecology of benthic algae (seaweeds), particularly in the context of reef degradation.
  • Identification and taxonomy of benthic algae
