Staff receiveing Engineers AwardProtecting our Waterways through Smarter Recycled Water Release Systems

The Gold Coast Seaway SmartRelease Project was awarded a High Commendation within the Research and Development Category at the Queensland Engineering Excellence Awards 2011 held at the Brisbane Convention Centre on Friday 7th October 2011. The Awards are hosted by Engineers Australia Queensland Division.

The SmartRelease project was recognised for elements of sustainability and improved management of recycled water release on the Gold Coast. In addition, a key outcome of the project was the deferral of the $60M duplication of the release pipeline saving the community significant capital expenditure.

The SmartRelease Project has been a joint project between Allconnex Water and DHI Water and Environment and Griffith Centre for Coastal Management. Congratulations to the team for this recognition at one of the States most prestigious engineering awards.

Staff received Australian Water Association AwardInaugural AWA Research Merit Award

Griffith Centre for Coastal Management has been awarded the Queensland Inaugural AWA Research Merit Award for the SmartRelease Study. The award was announced on Wednesday 14th October at the Australian Water Association (AWA): Queensland Branch Award dinner held at The Greek Club in Brisbane.

The Research Merit Award recognises an environmentally significant research project that leads to the sustainable use of Australia’s water resources.

The SmartRelease Study is a research initiative providing the foundation for optimising the recycled water release system to meet the demands of the growing Gold Coast population. It will also provide a significant contribution to water research through directly applying the study outcomes into a solution that addresses a real world problem, ultimately improving the management of recycled water and protection of our natural waterways.
