Protecting our waterways through smarter recycled water release systems
An innovative research project aimed at improving water quality in the Gold Coast Broadwater, located on Australia’s east coast is currently underway within the Griffith Centre for Coastal Management in collaboration with Allconnex Water and lead consultants DHI Water and Environment.
Population growth and increased pressure on Gold Coast City’s wastewater infrastructure necessitated the need for a recycled water release optimisation study. Through the development of a next generation decision support system, the study will ensure that recycled water release continues to satisfy the demands of an increasing population while ensuring optimum water quality within the Broadwater.
The Griffith Centre for Coastal Management led the monitoring and measurement component of this optimisation study in collaboration with the above research partners.
This management approach is moving towards a “smarter release” system which will be among the most advanced in the world.
