Aerial View of Gold Coast

The sustainable management of urban environments in coastal areas is the focus of the Centre's research. The Centre's researchers are uniquely qualified with expertise in areas such as

  • impacts of climate change and climate variability on coastlines
  • coastal hydrodynamics and sedimentary processes
  • numerical modelling of coastal hydrology and hydrodynamics
  • wave climate forecasting
  • video imaging and analysis of coastal processes
  • coastal engineering design and technology
  • flood plain modelling and management
  • urban catchment management
  • integrated water resource management and effluent disposal and dispersal in estuarine and coastal waters.

Our major projects are grouped under five strategic research programs:

The Centre has also recently been involved in the innovated Gold Coast Seaway SmartRelease Study aimed at improving water quality in the Gold Coast Broadwater.
