Activated Sludge and BNR Shortcourse

SmartWater in conjunction with the Griffith Centre for Coastal Management is running the Activated Sludge and BNR Shortcourse in Brisbane from 7th - 11th June 2010. This intensive five day short course is aimed at people working in the wastewater industry as operators, engineers, scientists or managers, who wish to have a working knowledge of troubleshooting and process optimisation of activated sludge and biological nutrient removal systems.

Griffith Centre for Coastal Management has been awarded the Queensland Inaugural AWA Research Merit Award for the SmartRelease Study. The award was announced on Wednesday 14th October at the Australian Water Association (AWA): Queensland Branch Award dinner held at The Greek Club in Brisbane.

The Research Merit Award recognises an environmentally significant research project that leads to the sustainable use of Australia’s water resources.

The SmartRelease Study is a research initiative providing the foundation for optimising the recycled water release system to meet the demands of the growing Gold Coast population.

The SmartRelease Study provides a significant contribution to water research through directly applying the study outcomes into a solution that addresses a real world problem, together providing for the improved managed of recycled water and protection of our natural waterways.

CD ROM Publication - Severe Storms on the East Coast of Australia 1770-2008

Centre researcher Dr Peter Helman and Jeff Callaghan have released the first edition of severe storms which is the most extensive compilation of references to east coast Australian weather extremes, including the first European observations made by James Cook and Joseph Banks on Endeavour in 1770.
