Beachcare activity BeachCare calendar

BeachCare is an award winning, community engagement program facilitated by Griffith Centre for Coastal Management with support from Gold Coast City Council. The program’s focus is on the significance and importance of our coastal zone and its sustainable management. It provides an opportunity for community members to participate in caring for their local beach, through establishing self-sufficient dune care groups, while gaining important information and resources about coastal management and the future of Gold Coast beaches and foreshores. Additionally, by promoting awareness of coastal processes and management, the program reaches out to the wider community encouraging them to engage in the decision-making processes,

BeachCare aims to:

  • Expand the program to incorporate community groups involved in the management of all Gold Coast beaches and foreshores.
  • Be self-sufficient in terms of resources, to provide community groups with access to all equipment when required.
  • Develop the program into a leading community volunteer program, linking the north and south dunal corridor with active, community, coastal conservation.

Community dune care activities are free, fun and family friendly, and include dune planting, weed removal, litter pick-ups and seed collection and propagation. BeachCare encourages you to come along and care for your local beach.

Past awards for BeachCare include:

  • 2011    Queensland Landcare Awards – Australian Government CoastCare  Community Award First Place
  • 2010    Gecko Annual Environment Awards – Gecko Gold and International Volunteering Day – Gold Coast Volunteer Coordinator of the Year Finalist.

  • Palm Beach, 27th Avenue
  • Currumbin, Duringan Street (Currumbin Alley)
