Gold Coast Shoreline Management Plan

Southport BeachThis project was established to investigate the managment of the sandy shoreline enviornment on the Gold Coast. The aim was to clearly define what we currently know, and what further research was needed to gain a thorough understanding of the sandy beach environment.

The project was organised under five themes:

  • Community values and involvement
  • Physical processes
  • Ecological processes
  • Beach management
  • Economic value of beaches
To date Mr Neil Lazarow, the Project Manager, has completed and submitted to Gold Coast City Council the Beach Health Report, the Recreational Value of Surfing Study and the Kirra Wave Amenity Study. Mr Lazarow has also studied the socio-economic value of recreational surfing on the Gold Coast.

Research has also been conducted into the physical processes and the ecological characteristics of sandy beaches.
