Overview
The inaugural Griffith University’s Environmental Futures Centre (EFC) Student Research Symposium is an opportunity for student researchers to come together and share their work. The aim of the event is to provide a supportive atmosphere where EFC affiliated students can present their work and receive feedback, allow fellow students to be informed of current research, as well as providing opportunities for developing presentation skills.
This symposium is intended to be for the students and by the students. As active participants in the process, students are encouraged to be involved in the organisation of the symposium, partake in presentation sessions and facilitate feedback mechanisms for student presentations and the overall symposium.
There are a number of ways students can present their work:
- A full spoken presentation (12 minutes)
These are typical conference presentations, given within a strict 15 minute period, and allowing for a few minutes of questions - A short presentation (5 minutes)
These shorter talks would suit people at the beginning of their research and is an opportunity to introduce themselves and their topic. These short talks will be presented in groups of three - A poster presentation
Authors of posters will be expected to remain near their poster during the special poster session.
All students are strongly encouraged to utilise this opportunity to network with fellow EFC scholars, and obtain feedback on their research from their peers.
It is important to note that these are not formal talks, but rather an opportunity for students to gain valuable experience at public speaking and to see some of the excellent research being under taken by other EFC students.
