The Environmental Futures Centre is committed to providing a supportive and productive research environment for our Higher Degrees by Research and Honours students, as they play an important role in the research efforts of our Centre.
Student projects are closely aligned with our research themes and strategic programs, including Biodiversity and Conservation; Ecological Restoration and Management; Sustainable Landscapes; Environmental Policy and Governance; Climate Change and Platform Technologies; Clean Environment and Energy; and the Management of Pest Fruit Flies.
A collaborative and cooperative culture within our Centre encourages students to share their ideas, progress and findings. A number of initiatives have also been developed to support the training of high quality researchers. This training and development takes the form of:
- a variety of information sessions and training workshops
- annual student research symposium
- support programs
- mentoring by senior researchers
- volunteer opportunities to develop skills and experience
- inclusion in the activities of the Centre including a variety of networking opportunities
- representation in the decision making process for the strategic direction of the Centre.
Students are well supported in terms of laboratory, fieldwork and computer facilities, with cross-campus collaborations allowing for greater flexibility and access to research facilities and knowledge. Additionally students are encouraged to, and assisted with, developing their own professional scientific networks (locally, nationally and internationally).
Undergraduate students are encouraged to further their studies by undertaking Honours, Master of Philosophy or Doctor of Philosophy higher degrees by research. Our enthusiastic researchers are happy to talk to prospective students about projects that are aligned closely with centre themes.
Full information regarding higher degrees by research can be found at the Higher Degrees by Research website.
