Seminar on PPBio presented at University of Adelaide

Associate Professor Jean-Marc Hero recently went to the University of Adelaide where he presented a seminar entitled "PPBio: an International System for Long Term Ecological Research".

Condomine Catchments on board for PPBio

October 2009

PPBio Australasia has received funding from the Condamine Catchments group to finish the establishment of the Lake Broadwater PPBio research grid.

PPBio Nepal 2009

28th November to December 13th 2009

The PPBio team is currently preparing for a Conservation in Practice course run in Nepal in 2009. All 2nd and 3rd year students currently in the Environmental Science program are invited to enroll in the 'Conservation in Practice' course in December 2009. Students are involved in a two week intensive course introducing the PPBio Research program to Nepali Officials and helping to establish a PPBio Research Grid in conservation areas in Nepal. Activities include Elephant rides, Rhino spotting, Bird Watching, Field work, seminars by Nepali officials and local communities, elephant breeding centre, Gharial Breeding Centre and general site seeing. Please contact Mikalah Malone if you are interested in enrolling. Places are offered on a first in first served basis.

Summer Semester Projects Kick-off 2009

Naomi Edwards and Sally Healy were awarded CICS summer scholarships this summer and are now conducting their 8 week short project on the PPBio Karawatha Grid. Naomi is identifying all Acacia species on the grid and Sally is conducting a social experiment on the values of Karawatha Forest Park.

PPBio now registered with AUSLTER and ILTER

November 2008

The PPBio project is now officially accepted as part of the AUSLTER network. Both Karawatha and Lake Broadwater sites are now listed.

Completion of the first Karawatha honours students

January - December 2008

Congratulations to Sarah Butler who received a 1st class honours for her work on Mesoscale variation in vegetation composition in response to soil, and topography.

Congratulations to Saara Kampmann who completed her study on the Influence of Vegetation Structure and Fire History on the Composition of Lizard Assemblages at Karawatha Forest Park, South-east Queensland.

Congratulations to Ryan Hughes for completing his honours on The determinants of the distribution and abundance of forest birds at Karawatha Forest Park.

PPBio Australasia goes to Nepal!

4th December 2007

The PPBio team along with several Griffith University students have initiated the PPBio program in Nepal! In December 2007, 23 researchers and students began to establish the first PPBio plot in Nepal at Chitwan National Park in collaboration with Tribuvan University, WWF Nepal and Nepal National Parks. The trip was a huge success with a new species being recorded in the park from their efforts. A big thank you to Hum Gurung for organising the trip.

PPBio Australasia - Karawatha launch

1st June 2007

The PPBio Australasia Launch was a huge success with over 50 people attending the event. Representatives from local, regional and state government attended as well as several local councillors. A big thank you to Matt DeGlas, Jon Shuker, the PPBio team and Narinder Virdee for a fabulous job on the BBQ!
