The Environmental Futures Centre is proud to announce the national recognition of Professor Roger Kitching with the Member of the Order of Australia (AM).
Professor Kitching was honoured with the prestigious award on Australia Day for "service to conservation science as an academic, researcher and educator, particularly in the field of tropical rainforest ecology and ecosystem management".
After earning Doctorates in Philosophy and Science from Oxford University and Griffith University, Professor Kitching joined Griffith University as an academic in 1977.Since then, Professor Kitching has received numerous promotions and awards in recognition of his valuable contribution to the field of rainforect ecology and climate change.
Professor Kitching now serves as the Deputy Head (Nathan) of the School of Environment, Chair of Ecology, Griffith School of Environment and leader of the biodiversity and conservation theme of the Environmental Futures Centre.
He also heads the Arthropod Diversity Lab at Nathan campus of Griffith University,where he researches arthropods with reference to biodiversity processes and more recently is exploring the relationship between climate change and biodiversity patterns at a global scale.
