People working together for sustainability.

Mission

To link individuals, businesses, educators and community groups with an interest in sustainability. To provide support to those who wish to take a positive step towards the sustainability of life on Earth.

Aims

To achieve sustainability the Friends of the EcoCentre will:

  • Share the resources of the EcoCentre with the community.
  • Provide practical support and assistance to community groups.
  • Facilitate information linkages and sharing of ideas, resources and skills between community groups, researchers, local experts, managers, educators, government agencies, corporate enterprises and the general public.
  • Create an interactive network and strong voice from the multitude of community groups working towards social, economic and ecological sustainability.
  • Link to the wider community, raising the profile of sustainable development and increasing community participation in sustainable ways of living.

History

Friends of the EcoCentre is a network of Non-Profit Organisations, University, Industry and Government Organisations working towards a just, sustainable and peaceful global society. Friends of the EcoCentre was adapted in 2003 from the EcoCentre Community Network which was launched in July 2002. Under this framework Friends of the Ecocentre was a membership based program that provided a number of services for a yearly fee. As the EcoCentre has evolved over time so has the role of Friends of the EcoCentre. Friends of the Ecocentre???s goals now primarily revolve around supporting community groups and those with an interest in sustainability, whether it???s in the aspect of environment, economy or society. Friends of the Ecocentre no longer operates under a predetermined set of services covered by a fee but instead will aim to bring the community together and provide help to individuals and groups wherever possible.
