The Centre for Environment and Population Health has been actively engaged in international exchanges and capacity building activities including academic and professional training, consultancy and research in many environment and population health areas.

We are an Academic Centre that provides a collaborative base for consultancy research, training and policy development. We are committed to a conception of development that brings together our common concerns for population health, environmental quality and economic opportunity. The Centre strives to serve present and future generations and applies basic principles of environmental sustainability, environmental and social justice, self determination and sensitivity to cultural diversity.

CEPH Director Professor Cordia Chu and Deputy Director Dr Peter Davey along with the Vice-Chancellor Professor Ian O'Connor and Deputy Vice-Chancellor(Academic) Professor John Dewar, host a visit to the Centre by Ms Julia Gillard, Deputy Prime-Minister (then acting Prime Minister

Currently the Centre has built an international network with counterparts in a number of countries in the Asia-Pacific region including: China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Macau, Singapore, Taiwan and Vietnam.

Chosen by WHO, the Centre has been providing short term training courses to research fellows, decision-makers, high ranking officials and public health practitioners from the nominated countries.

Through the Centre's Director, Professor Cordia Chu, its Deputy Director, Dr Peter Davey, and Associate Members, the Centre has developed an international reputation in the areas of:

  • Environmental Health, particularly in Environmental Planning and Pollution Control, and Food Safety and Management;
  • Health Promotion such as Healthy Cities, Workplaces, Communities, and Health Promotion Strategies and Planning;
  • Reproductive Health, particularly in developing Health Policy and Research Programs to address the needs of disadvantaged women in China.
