Established in 2006, the Australian Rivers Institute provides a focus for river, catchment and coastal research and education, building on the University's long-standing reputation in environmental science.

The Institute's research is focused around six major themes: Catchment and River Processes; Coastal and Estuarine Processes, Water Allocation and Environmental Flows; Aquatic Biodiversity and Conservation; Restoration Science; and Monitoring and Assessment.

Postgraduate students receive significant support for field and laboratory research and funding for conference travel and other training is available. The Institute offers a range of well-equipped laboratories and field equipment.

The Institute offers scholarship opportunities for students considering a Higher Degree Research (Masters and PhD) or Honours.

Honours Scholarships in Water Science 2012

We are seeking highly motivated students who have recently completed their undergraduate degree in hydrology, geomorphology, ecology, chemistry or water resource management, and have an interest in pursuing a research career in the water sciences at Griffith University.

PhD top up scholarships valued at $6,000 per annum

Some top up scholarships are available to students who are awarded an APA or GUPRS in the Scholarship Rounds at Griffith University. These scholarships are open to International or Domestic applicants who have Research Honours 1 or equivalent.

  • Closing dates in 2013 will be advised when available

PhD Scholarship valued at $25,000 per annum for 3 years

A range of evolutionary topics are available. Open to International or Domestic applicants who have Research Honours 1 or Honours 2A or equivalent.
