The creation of the $18 million, state-of-the-art Queensland Smart Water Research Facility at Griffith University's Gold Coast campus will enhance research undertaken by ARI scientists and students into sustainable water supplies, safeguarding water quality and exploring alternative water sources.

The Facility, funded in 2006 by the Queensland State Government in conjunction with the Gold Coast City Council and Griffith University, will house a mesocosm testing facility to simulate how pollutants affect river and wetland ecosystems.

The Facility's research program will bring together experts from Griffith and other research institutions, water supply authorities and water technology companies.
