Climate variability and forced migration in Northeast Brazil.
Description
The scientific literature has extensively highlighted the causes and effects of climate variability in the Northeast of Brazil, but the projected impact of climate change offers a new scenario for studies that investigate the possibility of worsening conditions of vulnerability in the semi-arid region of the country. The concept of climate-related environmental migration is now being discussed frequently in various sectors of society by calling the attention to the most vulnerable areas of the planet The objective of this research is to advance knowledge on the correlation between climate variability and natural hazards and the category of environmental migrants, through the interpretation of available climatic data, and use of qualitative methods to capture the perception and the conditions that might lead to migration instead of alternative adaptation options in a environmentally constrained region of Northeast Brazil.
