ARI researchers win major funding grants
ARI researchers have been successful in attracting Australian Research Council grants, for the 2012 funding round . Congratulations to the following recipients of ARC grants and funding:
Dr Guillermo Diaz-Pulido was awarded $300,000 for his project Ecological competition between corals and algae in a high carbon dioxide world: understanding the mechanisms and implications for reef ecosystems.
Dr Simon Linke, Dr Mark Kennard and Dr Josie Cardwardine were awarded $230, 000 for the ARC Discovery project Systematic planning beyond conservation: a multi-objective, multi-action framework for sustainable biodiversity. When planning for conservation in rivers, protecting plants and animals can not simply be achieved by protecting parts of a river. This project will develop a strategy to sustain freshwater biodiversity that will optimally allocate conservation and restoration resources and minimises negative socioeconomic impacts on stakeholders.
Associate Professor Michele Burford and Dr Philip Orr are part of a team awarded $278,805 for the ARC Linkage project Living in a high carbon dioxide world: impacts on freshwater phytoplankton populations from elevated atmospheric carbon dioxide. The partner organisations are South East Queensland Water and the University of Amsterdam and the project is to be administered by Monash University.
