We introduced a three-year undergraduate program in Architecture – Bachelor of Environmental Design (Architecture) – in 2010 and plan to introduce a two-year Master of Architecture professional qualification in 2013.
Our Architecture program introduces you to a broad knowledge of architectural and environmental matters and prepares you for postgraduate studies. The program is distinctive through its emphasis on environmental sustainability, urban design, cross-disciplinary studies, and on the provision of students to select electives for breadth or for focus. Practice experience is built into the third-year capstone design course and additional credited practice experience is available through special topic electives.
There is a shortage of people with environmental design expertise and our two-tier professional architecture qualification (BEnvDes and MArch) is designed to help graduates secure professional employment and contribute to the long-term health of the built environment.
State-of-the-art facilities
Architecture is housed in purpose-built facilities on the Gold Coast campus. You will benefit from the latest thinking in architecture education, with specialist design studios incorporating spaces for hands-on modelling and construction. The studios include flexible teaching areas, exhibition space, a resource hub, seminar rooms, dedicated laser cutter and 3D printer rooms, student lockers, lounge and kitchen.
Inspiring teachers
Our teaching staff are well known throughout the national and international architecture community for their achievements as architect educators. You will also benefit from the expertise of guest lecturers who teach periodically during the semester. These guests are drawn from sole practitioners, local government architects, senior architects and principals of firms.
Professional accreditation
The Griffith architecture program received a successful Preliminary Assessment by the Australian Institute of Architects/Architects Accreditation Council of Australia (AACA)/Board of Architects of Queensland, in 2011. Full accreditation is anticipated from the review scheduled in 2014. This will equip graduates to proceed toward Professional registration.
