Overview
Though effortless for humans, offering machines with the intelligence of "seeing" and "understanding" our visual world is far more difficult than expected and has fascinated people of many generations. While inspired by its broad range of industrial applications, computer vision also helps us better understand ourselves. As one of the international leading research groups and part of National ICT Australia (NICTA), the Institute's Computer Vision and Image Processing laboratory conducts research of investigating new technologies and robust systems for face recognition, facial expression understanding, image retrieval, biometrics, 2D and 3D object recognition. The laboratory's recent research also includes insect identification and interpretation, medical image analysis, scene understanding and modelling.
