Consultancy Work Record
Professor Loo has served in the UK, Malaysia, Thailand and Australia as a consultant to various engineering consultants and government authorities on bridge engineering, civil engineering and building projects worth well over AUD200M (in 2011 value).Major projects since the 1970s include:
- The design analysis of the series of six single and multi-span box-type bridges on the Renfrew Motorway (Stage 2) in Glasgow, Scotland - the project consultants were W.H. Fairhurst and Partners, Glasgow.
- The design analysis of Queen's Drive Viaduct (7-span continuous concrete box) and Bowring Park Viaduct (8-span continuous concrete box) both on the Lancashire-Yorkshire Motorway M62 – the bridge owner was the North Western Roads Construction Unit, England.
- The design analysis of Langham West Bridge (4-span continuous concrete box) on the M62 Motorway – the bridge owner was the North Eastern Roads Construction Unit, England.
- The design analysis of the original approach spans to the Kessock Bridge - a multispan steel box. Designed by bridge consulting engineers Crouch and Hogg, Glasgow, the bridge was to be built in the north of Scotland.
- Instructed by Bridge Design Consultants Pty. Ltd. of North Sydney to help develop the earthquake energy absorbers for the 3-span concrete box viaduct over the Nepean River Gorge, NSW (on the Picton-Wollongong trunk road No. 95).
- Commissioned by Rahmat, Chuah and Lim, Consulting Engineers, Malaysia to design a series of twelve 7-storey (steel-concrete composite) shear walls for the Malayan Banking Corporation Staff Training and Sports Centre at Bangi near Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
- The design of a massive steel grillage structure required to stiffen the basement of the Citibank Tower Block in Penang, Malaysia. The work was requested by the (late) Dr. Andre Tomiolo of Milan, Italy who was responsible for rescuing the subsiding 10-storey RC building.
- Carried out the conceptual design and the detailed design analysis of a sewage digestion tank. Covering an area of 43 m x 36 m and with 6.75 m high concrete walls, the tank was supported on precast concrete piles. The assignment was completed for Federal Consulting Engineers Co. Ltd., Bangkok. The tank formed part of the waste water treatment system for the Ayudhya Liquor Plant near Bangkok, Thailand.
In 2011, he was commissioned to carry out serviceability and failure investigations of reinforced concrete structures both locally and internationally.
