As a sport and biomedical engineer, you will have a strong base in electronics and will have the opportunity to develop multidisciplinary skills in
  • sports science
  • biomechanics
  • microelectronics
  • instrumentation

To meet the changing needs of the biomedical and healthy lifestyles industries, you will be trained to develop and implement high-technology electronic solutions for many applications to

  • develop and maintain systems to assist in the training of athletes of all types
  • help clinicians diagnose and monitor patients
  • assist with systems for patient and sports rehabilitation
  • design high-tech sporting equipment
We have strong industry partnerships with the Queensland Academy of Sport in developing wireless applications to improve athlete assessment, and are working with other sporting institutions, such as the Australian Institute of Sport, on a wide variety of projects.

The new Gold Coast University Hospital will provide world-class health facilities and open the door for you to implement your engineering abilities in a medical environment.

As a graduate, you will have many local, national and international employment opportunities as a biomedical or electronics engineer
  • in sporting institutes, academies and sporting clubs/associations, equipment manufacturers and research and development
  • in hospitals and medical research centres
  • in the prosthetic industry, healthcare, aged care, injury performance, gait and fatigue analysis, rehabilitation and medical equipment design
