Research
The key research issues that the Centre for Infrastructure and Engineering Management addresses are:
- How to improve the fabric of existing physical infrastructure; and
- How to enhance the performance of future infrastructure.
Answers can only be provided through a proper and rigorous Research and Development program in engineering? Related disciplines including materials, design, analysis, construction technology and management. The primary contribution of the Centre, therefore, is to provide efficient and practical solutions to these two pressing issues.
The principal focus for the Centre is to develop theoretical knowledge base and applied technologies that will significantly enhance the physical lifecycle performance of existing and future civil infrastructure systems. To do so, the research focus has the following three major objectives:
- Improved engineering design methods;
- Advanced construction techniques and technologies; and
- Enhanced decision-making managerial processes.
Members of the Centre for Infrastructure Engineering and Management have expertise in the areas of structural, geotechnical and coastal engineering, as well as construction and engineering management.
