Where is Australia?Where do preservice teachers do their professional experience?
Preservice teachers are placed in primary and secondary school across the Gold Coast district. Griffith University uses state schools, independent and catholic schools to place preservice teachers for their Professional Experience.
Can a preservice teacher choose a specific school?
Preservice teachers may only choose specific schools for their Internship placements. All other placements are allocated to students by the placement officer.
Do Gold Coast Griffith University preservice teachers do their professional experience in Brisbane?
Griffith University Gold Coast uses the local schools community to place all preservice teachers for professional experience. Only in exceptional circumstances would they be placed in the Brisbane area.
Can preservice teachers call schools to organise their placement?
It is a policy of Griffith University in accordance with the combined universities committee in Queensland that all placements must be confirmed through the placement office at each campus.
Do preservice teachers have to go to school everyday?
It is a requirement for graduation and registration with the Queensland College of Teachers that preservice teachers complete all days of professional experience in their program.
What if the preservice teacher is sick during professional experience?
If the preservice teacher is sick during their professional experience they must notify their school as well as the Professional Experience Office immediately. The preservice teacher is required to make this day up at the end of the block period. A negotiated make up days form must be filled out and signed and submitted to the Professional Experience Office before the preservice teacher attends these additional days.
Does the preservice teacher have to make up public holidays during professional experience?
No
Does the preservice teacher have to go to school on student free days?
It is in the best interest for the preservice teacher to attend student free days, but ultimately it is up to the school. If the preservice teacher does not attend the student free day, he/she must make up the day.
