The Professional Experience Office is colloquially referred to as the 'Prac Office'. We place 3,500 Pre-Service teachers in Professional Experience situations within Queensland schools each year. Professional Experience is vital to a student's development as a Teacher. The terminology 'Prac' comes from the word 'Practicum' which relates to practical experience in a teaching situation.
Prac guidelines
- Undergraduates must complete 100 days of Prac to graduate and register as a teacher in Queensland.
- Students must never arrange their own placement or contact a school directly.
- Secondary / Graduate Diploma students must complete 20 days Wider Professional Experience as well as Prac.
When on Prac students are referred to as a 'Pre-Service Teacher'. Pre-Service Teachers are expected to:
- Behave in a professional manner at all times
- Be at school for the full school day (8am to 4pm)
- 'Mirror' the actions of their Supervising Teacher e.g. playground/bus duty etc.
Personal circumstances are not taken into account. Students must accept that with over 3,500 placements annually and many students with personal commitments, we are unable to take these into consideration.
