Professional Experience Office (Brisbane, Logan)

The Professional Experience Office is colloquially referred to as the 'Prac Office'. We place 3,500 Pre-Service teachers in Professional Experience situations within Queensland schools each year.

Professional Experience is vital to a student's development as a Teacher. The terminology 'Prac' comes from the word 'Practicum' which relates to practical experience in a teaching situation.

Prac guidelines

  • Undergraduates must complete 100 days of Prac to graduate and register as a teacher in Queensland.
  • Students must never arrange their own placement or contact a school directly.
  • Secondary / Graduate Diploma students must complete 20 days Wider Professional Experience as well as Prac.
When on Prac students are referred to as a 'Pre-Service Teacher'. Pre-Service Teachers are expected to:
  • Behave in a professional manner at all times
  • Be at school for the full school day (8am–4pm)
  • 'Mirror' the actions of their Supervising Teacher e.g. playground/bus duty etc.
Prac is made up of Lead in Days (orientation) and Block Prac (1-5 weeks).

Personal circumstances are not taken into account. Students must accept that with over 3,500 placements annually and many students with personal commitments, we are unable to take these into consideration.
