Delivering school supplies to devastated Haiti
The earthquake that struck Haiti on 12 January 2010 killed an estimated 250,000 people and caused $14 billion damage. Nearly 18 months have passed and more recent natural disasters now dominate the news, but Haiti is still in the grip of devastation.
As Haitians continue to rebuild their lives from the rubble of the 2010 earthquake, many families can’t afford to buy the notebooks and pencils their children require to attend school. That’s where The Schoolbag comes in.
The Schoolbag is a charitable organisation that provides basic school supplies to children in disaster, conflict and poverty-stricken areas. 1000 Voices
1000 Voices is the flagship research and public awareness project of the Population and Community Health research unit at Griffith University. While a lot of research is conducted in the field of disability using statistics and other medicalised forms of data, we rarely hear about the experiences of people who live with disability. Through the 1000 Voices project we hope to remedy this situation by collecting and displaying 1000 life stories from people with disability from around the world. More information can be found at the 1000 Voices website
