Honourable MP - Griffith Law School
The Honourable Andrew Fraser MP is the Former Queensland Deputy Premier, Treasurer and Minister for State Development and Trade.
During his time in the role of Minister for State Development and Trade, Deputy Premier Andrew Fraser looked after the State’s major projects, as well as export opportunities into global markets.
Mr Fraser was appointed Deputy Premier in September 2011, rewriting Queensland’s history books to become the youngest sworn-in Deputy Premier.
First elected as the State Member for Mt Coot-tha in 2004 and re-elected in 2006 and 2009, Mr Fraser became the youngest ever Parliamentary Secretary in Queensland during his first term as an MP.
Mr Fraser first served as Parliamentary Secretary to the Premier and Treasurer, then serving as Parliamentary Secretary to the Premier and Minister for Health.
After overseeing Queensland’s most important program of reform to local government as Minister for Local Government, Planning and Sport, Mr Fraser was appointed Treasurer in 2007. At 30 years of age, he became the youngest Minister to hold the Treasury portfolio since 1915.
In March 2009, he was given additional responsibilities as Minister for Employment and Economic Development following the March 2009 Queensland election.
Mr Fraser is a graduate of Griffith University with degrees in Commerce and Law. He graduated with first class honours and received the University Medal for academic excellence.
In November 2011, the Mr Fraser received the Griffith Law School Alumnus Award.
