Entry to the following social functions is included in your registration fees: 

  • Alison Young, Bill MacNeil1 December: Conference ‘Welcome’ – DELL Gallery, 6.00 pm arrival, QCA(S05), South Bank campus, 226 Grey St for canapés and drink/s (beer or wine).
  • 1 December (during ‘Welcome’ function): Book launch – Alison Young’s The Scene of Violence: Cinema, Crime, Affect (Routledge–Cavendish, 2009).
  • Public Space launch3 and 5 December: Poetry ready by MTC Cronin, 1.00 pm, Webb Centre (S02), Level 7, Foyer.
  • 4 December: 2008 LSA Conference papers launch by Managing Editor, Rocque Reynolds - Public Space, 12.45 pm, Webb Centre, S02, Level 7, Foyer.

Entry to the following is purchased separately at the time of registration:

  • Conference dinner3 December: Conference dinner – Alfresco @ Watt, 6.00 pm arrival, Brisbane Powerhouse, 119 Lamington St, Lower Level, New Farm. Three course meal including entreé, main and dessert.
  • 3 December (during Conference dinner): Book launch – Rob McQueen’s A Social History of Company Law: Great Britain and the Australian Colonies 1854–1920 (Ashgate, 2009), 6.30 pm.
  • Rob McQueen launchDrinks can be purchased by delegates at the indoor bar.
  • Dinner service will commence at 7.00 pm.
  • Cost: $75.00 including GST (non refundable).
  • Note: The City Cat departs the South Bank 1 terminal every 15 minutes for New Farm Park (see page 9 and 11 of the BCC timetable).
  • Note: You may bring a guest to the Conference dinner however seating is limited.
The following social functions are to be paid on the day, by 1.00 pm at the Social Functions Registration Desk in the DELL Gallery (S05) Foyer:
  • 4 December: Caro Mio Café jazz restaurant and bar – 6.00 pm arrival, 598 Stanley St, Woolloongabba. Three course meal. Caro Mio Cafe
  • Cost: $37.50 incl. GST.
  • Drinks can be purchased by delegates at the in–house bar.
  • Note: The venue is a short walk from the Mater Hill Busway station.
  • Note: Seating is limited to 35 people. Preference will be given to those moving onto the Family Nightclub after dinner.
  • 4 December: Family Nightclub – 10.15 pm arrival, 8 McLachlan St, Fortitude Valley.
  • Cost: $15.00 entry (tickets will be pre–purchased, which means no queuing).
  • Drinks can be purchased by delegates at any of the in–house bars.
  • Note: The venue is an approximate five minute walk from Fortitude Valley train station, through the Brunswick St Mall.

The following social functions are to paid at the venue/s, on the night; one bill per table: Gerties

  • 5 December: Conference closing drinks – Gerties Bar and Lounge, 6.00 pm to 8.00 pm, 699 Brunswick St, Fortitude Valley.
  • Drinks can be purchased by delegates at the in–house bar.
  • Fiona Campbell launch5 December: Book launch – Fiona Kumari Campbell’s Contours of Ableism: The Production of Disability and Abledness (Palgrave–Macmillan, 2009), Continental Café, 8.00 pm, 21 Barker St, Fortitude Valley. Download a copy of the MP3 recording of Fiona’s launch (9.14MB).
  • 5 December: Dinner (following the book launch) – Select from the pre–arranged menu (PDF 56kb).
  • Cost: $49.90 including GST.
  • Note: The venue is a short walk, just around the corner from Gerties.
  • Note: A small function room has been secured at the Continental Café; seating is limited to 30 people.
