About the TechNet 2007 National Conference

The TechNet 2007 National Conference will be hosted by Griffith University, Queensland at its Gold Coast campus on the 4th, 5th and 6th July, 2007.

First hosted as TechTrain by The University of Technology, Sydney, in 1997, the renamed TechNet conferences have, since 2000, been a major event on the technical staff professional development calendar. TechNet provides technical staff within tertiary education, public and private sectors the opportunity to participate in a professional forum in which to exchange skills and ideas, discuss product knowledge, and designs or to compare standards and methodologies amongst like professionals.

TechNet hosts a significant trade exhibit which is attended and sponsored by many major technical and scientific supply companies, thereby providing a value adding conference experience for the technical professional.

The TechNet 2007 conference will provide presentations on innovative work and ideas, thought provoking special guest speakers, industry trade exhibits, and tours of leading edge campus teaching and research facilities. Delegates from all major technical support disciplines are invited to ensure a conference that celebrates technical diversity. Several broad discussion streams will be established based on papers presented. We encourage presenters to share their stories of what they are doing or have achieved. TechNet is also an environment where new presenters are supported.

Based on the theme ‘TECH SMARTER: DOING IT BETTER, DOING IT DIFFERENT' TechNet 2007 will attract technical staff from a wide variety of teaching, research and administrative fields including; health, science, engineering, education, arts & visual media, mechanical and electronic workshop manufacturing, field operations, instrumentation, information technology, occupational health and safety, animal facilities, management and career development – and will be structured to maximise networking opportunities.

During a time of rapid change, technical staff are continually challenged to maintain high quality support with fewer resources. Technical staff have responded to these pressures through adaptation, innovative design, improvisation and being 'smarter' about the way they do their jobs....doing it better by doing it different. This journey has meant changes with many outstanding results that are advantageous, resource saving and best practice.

TechNet 2007 will further enhance collaboration, networking and professional development within the technical fields of tertiary education and relevant public/private sector organisations. We look forward to catching up with past TechNet associates and friends from across the country and meeting new delegates and trade exhibitors.

Learn from others, share ideas and promote your work - see you on the Gold Coast in 2007, naturally the world’s best place to be.
