For years, Surfers Paradise has been synonymous with Australia’s Gold Coast – even today, almost half of all visitors to the Gold Coast head to Surfers Paradise.
Over decades, visitors have flocked to this entertainment capital, named ‘Surfers Paradise’ by developers in 1933 to reflect the beach and surf conditions that lured residents and holiday makers from the north and south for weekend retreats. From these early beginnings, Surfers Paradise quickly grew and established itself in the 1950’s and 1960’s as Australia’s favourite party destination.
While the attractions and physical landscape of Surfers Paradise have evolved in line with modern tastes, it still remains Queensland’s entertainment capital that plays 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Modern day Surfers Paradise is alive and surprising. Its calendar of year-round events keeps tourists, athletes and celebrities returning time after time. There’s something on every week in this glitter strip with everything from Beach Cinema to Australia’s only night beachfront markets.
Flanking the iconic wall of high-rise buildings is Surfers Paradise Beach, twice voted one of the ‘World’s Best Beaches’ by the Discovery Channel. Enjoyed by millions each year, it was also awarded the title of ‘Queensland’s Cleanest Beach’ in 2005.
Surfers Paradise is vibrant and alive. Bare chested bronzed Aussie surfers wander with surfboards slung under their arms down the main street, families frolic in the surf and couples enjoy cappuccinos at alfresco cafes. High-rise meets sand, meets parks and gardens.
A Gold Coast holiday is pure excitement. Where else can you swim with dolphins, walk with tigers and travel from 0 to 100km an hour in two seconds. This is the theme park capital of Australia – even deciding which park to visit is exciting.
When it comes to good food, Australia’s Gold Coast delivers it all. You can eat in, buying superb produce and gourmet delicacies at one of the many early morning farmers markets. Or visit the cheesemakers, chocolate factories, wineries and fruit growers yourself. When it comes to eating out, you have countless choices, in setting from beachfront to rainforest.
The Gold Coast is the place to lie back, relax and remind yourself you deserve it. Take a leisurely stroll through art and craft stalls at Tamborine Mountain or browse sculpture exhibitions by local artists.
The Gold Coast is always ready for you, day or night. You can party into the early hours of the morning or roll the dice at the casino. Then get up late and stroll down for a coffee and a spot of people watching.
The Gold Coast is naturally spectacular, even at night. At Springbrook National Park discover one of Australia’s largest glowworm colonies sparkling in the dark under the Natural Arch. You can experience the world heritage listed nature reserves or the hinterland with a serious bushwalk, or a leisurely stroll or more simply a few birds at a rainforest sanctuary.
A Gold Coast holiday will leave you with great memories to take home. With more attractions than anywhere else in the southern hemisphere you will have plenty to choose from.
