Dr Darryl Dymock has spent most of his working life as a lecturer and researcher, and writing for an academic readership. More recently he has changed tack to create narrative non-fiction, novels and short stories for a wider audience. His short story, ‘Out of the blue’ was published in the 2010 anthology, One Book many Brisbanes, and a new biography, Hinkler: The pilot the world forgot, has just been short-listed in a national competition for possible publication in the near future.
As guest speaker at the conference dinner, he will tell us a little about the challenge of turning ideas into publications and about the long and winding road towards publication, illustrated with some extracts from his work.
