In 2005, the President of the University of Tokyo, Professor Hiroshi Watanabe, and Professor Hiroshi Komiyama visited the Graduate University of Chinese Academy of Science. Following the subsequent discussions it was decided a program called the Sino-Japan Student Forum would be delivered to boost student exchange activities between GUCAS and UT.
The forum was successfully carried out by the Institute of Medical Science at UT in October 2005. At the end of this forum GUCAS and UT agreed that these symposiums should have a more international scope. And so, in 2006, the University of Nebraska Medical Centre was invited to be part of the International Student Research Forum.
The first International Student Research Forum was held later in 2006 and has continued annually for the past three years, hosted in Beijing, Tokyo and Omaha, Nebraska.
Griffith University was invited to join the forum in 2008 and this year will host the event at the Gold Coast campus. It will bring together upcoming scientists, calling for collaboration beyond the lines of disciplines and nationalities and providing an opportunity to showcase world-class education and research.
