Encounters 2007

Encounters II – Further Meetings in Australian Music

22-25 November 2007 Curated by Vincent Plush

Co-inciding with Islands, and as a part of Building Musical Futures, the 50th anniversary celebration of Queensland Conservatorium, is the second edition of Encounters.

Encounters II will be an exciting exploration through performances and discussion of the multifaceted relationship of Australian music with the Asia-Pacific region at large. It brings together a suite of themes: islands, water, voyages of discovery, and utopias in music.

The first edition of this project, Encounters: Meetings in Australian Music, critically traced 200 years of musical interactions between Aboriginal and European cultures on Australian soil. It was realised by Queensland Conservatorium Research Centre in April 2005, and won both the state and national award for ‘Outstanding Contribution by an Organisation’ in the prestigious 2006 Australasian Performing Rights Association (APRA) and Australian Music Centre (AMC) Classical Music Awards.

A detailed program is now available (pdf), and an outline of the concerts is given below.
