Roundtable Roles
"Angel" and "Devil" Critics
Angels and Devils have the challenging role of providing an incisive critique
of the best and the worst of the day's presentations and other activities. Angels
and Devils are encouraged to draw on their own expertise and experience to either
reinforce the content, views or perceptions shared throughout the day, or to highlight
gaps or omissions in the presentations and discussions. Angel and Devil critiques
will be presented to all Roundtable participants in 5 or 10 minute report back
session.
Co-facilitator
Co-facilitators work in pairs to lead and guide the discussion in the group
breakout sessions. An additional responsibility of co-facilitators is to ensure
that the group reaches agreement on the key outcomes or issues which resulted
from their discussion, which may be presented to the wider Roundtable forum
in a 5-10 minute report back session. Co-facilitators are encouraged to meet
up with their breakout group reporter beforehand, to ensure that everyone is
clear about their roles before the session begins.
Panel Members
Members of the panel will each be given three to five minutes to present their
case or "pitch" on the panel topic. Following this, the wider Roundtable
participants will be invited to make comments or direct questions to panel members
as part of a wider open discussion or debate. Members of the panel, are encouraged
to meet together prior to the event, to plan the smooth running of the panel session.
Reporters
Reporters are asked to work with co-facilitators to summarise the key points of
the breakout group discussions. The key points will be documented in two ways
- a dot point summary of the three critical points the group would be prepared
to report back to the audience. In addition a written summary, preferably not
exceeding one page in length, will be included in the International Roundtable
proceedings. In addition, reporters should be prepared to give a 5 minute report
back to the forum of the three key points of issues emanating from their group's
discussion.
Session Convenors
The role of the Session Convenor is to ensure that, prior to the Roundtable, all
people in their session with an assigned role (eg presenters, discussion group
co-facilitators, editors and panel members), are fully briefed on the format and
expected outcomes, and, further, that all AV requirements have been pre-arranged.
During the Roundtable, convenors will chair a particular session and are responsible
for facilitating its smooth running, which includes the task of ensuring that
all activities keep within their allocated time. At the conclusion of the session,
convenors will work with the session editors to complete the summary of the session
for publication in the event proceedings.
Session Editors
Session editors are responsible for identifying and recording the key observations
and issues which arose from the presentations and activities of a particular session.
Session editors, in conjunction with their session convenor are responsible for
assisting in the final compilation of the roundtable outcomes, which will be available
online and distributed to all participants following the event.
Speakers
The International Roundtable has a number of different presentation formats. "Keynote",
"Invited", "Snapshot" and "Soapbox". All speakers
are encouraged to prepare a presentation which is focused, can be delivered within
their allocated time frame and takes into account the diverse range of participants
in attendance. The International Roundtable participants are listed on the e-Agenda
website.
Keynotes Speakers are invited to give a 20 or a 30 minute
presentation on a topic of their choice, which has been negotiated with the
International Roundtable Organising Committee. The aim of the keynotes, should
be to challenge, inspire and engage the audience. AV requirements and receipt
of digital slide presentations (eg PowerPoint) should be confirmed with the
conference organisers, Martin Lack and Associates
at least one week prior to the event.
Invited Speakers will be paired in a session bracket, each
with 20 minutes to present the key issue topic selected from the abstracts submitted
earlier in the year. Presenters should aim, not only to prepare a presentation
which is informative and engaging to the wider audience, but one which also
covers the significance of their issue or topic to an emerging e-Agenda context.
AV requirements and receipt of digital slide presentations (eg PowerPoint) should
be confirmed with the conference organisers, Martin
Lack and Associates at least one week prior to the event.
Snapshot and Soapbox Speakers have 10 and 5 minutes respectively
for a short, snappy presentation on a key issue or topic that has previously
been agreed with the International Roundtable Organising Committee. Snapshot
presentations will be delivered in the main Roundtable venue. Soapbox presentations
will be delivered in the more informal atrium adjoining area, accompanied by
drinks and nibbles.
