Michael is Director - Information Services, Flexible Learning & Access Services in the Division of Information Services at Griffith University . He was appointed to this position in February, 1998.

Michael has extensive experience in senior management positions responsible for designing, developing, implementing, and evaluating:

Current applied research and development interests include projects concerned with the identification, quantification and benchmarking of effective solutions for interactive resource-based education and training and models for the effective commercialisation of teaching and learning intellectual property.

Darien Rossiter (Co-convenor)

Darien has had over twenty years experience working in both the public and private sectors, in education, media, information and communication technology, public relations and business. Her diverse career path as a librarian, media producer, administrator, educational advisor, consultant and researcher, provides a breadth of knowledge and experience that informs her views on new learning approaches and management of organisational knowledge.

She has considerable experience initiating and managing large scale collaborative and commercial projects between higher education, corporate and government institutions, in the role of senior project manager, change manager and principal researcher.

Darien has held senior advisory and management positions at the Australian National University , Film Australia , and the Queensland University of Technology. She is currently the Manager, Strategic Initiatives, Information Services at Griffith University , Brisbane , Australia .

Darien is in the final stages of her PhD dissertation on the topic of "Organisational Capacity to Embed Innovation in Higher Education", undertaking extensive case study research across a number of Australian universities.

Marcia Harrison (co-host)

Marcia is Deputy Director of Information Services at Cranfield University and Head of Development primarily responsible for advancement of services such as the College's website, intranet and the introduction of new virtual and electronic services such as the electronic library, e-theses, e-prints, Metalib etc. It is the remit of this post to drive technological innovation in collaboration with colleagues within the university and its departments and external partners and clients.

Marcia has been involved with, and managed, various Government funded projects including the ELLEN project, which looked at and assessed issues related to the introduction of a VLE/MLE in various learning environments. Working with a broad range of universities, colleges and corporate partners, the aim of this large project was to assess and compare the products on the market, develop appropriate on-line course materials, processes, and store them centrally so that they could be shared by the consortium of institutions enabling the delivery of learning via the most appropriate solution to the individual and groups of learners wherever they were located.

Marcia's past experience also includes setting up and implementing a range of LMS and electronic library products. Managing the implementation and provision of WebCT, Blackboard and Fretwell Downing's "Le".

Marcia has also presented, managed and delivered many papers and workshops at Library Association (CILIP) conferences and seminars. Run specific study days on electronic services for librarians within different sectors of the profession and acted as Chair and secretary of many and various library committees.

David Wilson
Principal

With 20 years in K-12 and corporate education David is the Managing Director of Learning Management Consulting an Australian company assisting corporate, academic, national education departments and a cross section of government clients in the design and implementation of their eLearning strategies. Formerly the General Manager of The PRISM Group, an international online learning company, his principle areas of interest lies in harnessing the collaborative strengths of ICT through effective pedagogical design, and more recently, the effective management and reusability of digital assets through standards based environments.

David has been involved in CBT and online teaching and learning since the mid 80's and has assisted a number of academic institutions in the design and implementation of degree and Masters programmes in online learning. He is currently working with Cranfield University Project Managing the implementation the Royal Military Defence Academy 's Military Knowledge programmes.

Josie Taylor

The Open University, UK.

Dr Taylor's research focuses on the ways in which people learn from complex traditional and on-line media and how best to design those media to support learning. She was a grantholder for a ESRC Cognitive Engineering project which looked at the role of narrative as a scaffolding device in multimedia (MENO). Using use activity theory, and socio-cognitive engineering approaches to design, Dr Taylor has led the Open University's contribution to several EU-funded projects on e-learning and learning in a mobile environment. She has played an advisory role in both national and international activities on strategies for e-learning and pedagogy, and on evaluation methodology.

Dr. Taylor is being currently funded by a consortium of government funding agencies to conduct a UK-wide consultation process on the priorities for research in e-learning in the UK to inform funding policy.

Dr Bernard Scott

Dr Bernard Scott is Senior Lecturer in Electronically-Enhanced Learning, Cranfield University, RMCS, Shrivenham. His role is to provide vision, leadership and co-ordination in support of flexible learning developments at Shrivenham and to liaise with colleagues across the Defence Academy and other CU sites. Previous appointments have been with: the University of the Highlands and Islands Millennium Institute, De Montfort University, the Open University and Liverpool John Moores University. Dr Scott's research interests include: theories of learning and teaching, course design and organisational change. He has published extensively on these topics.
