Cutting through to a new career in teaching

Felicity Rossi

Felicity Rossi comes from a long line of teachers (mother, grandmother, uncle and aunt) but she opted for travel rather than university when she left school and was a hairdresser with her own salon for more than ten years.

"When I had my own children and became involved with their school, I realised that was where I really wanted to be", she said.

"In 2005, I heard about Griffith's Continuing Education Certificate in Education Studies from a friend and enrolled almost immediately. I didn't want to waste any time!"

Having not studied since high school, Felicity found the part-time certificate the perfect way to 'ease into' university.

Felicity has continued her studies within the Bachelor of Education (Primary), and made many new friends with similar interests and goals.

The continued support from staff and other students is always readily available and forms an integral part of life at Griffith University.

As Felicity has eased into her first Practicum experience, her dreams and ambitions of becoming a primary school teacher have become much more of a reality, and the excitement and anticipation of achieving her dream of becoming a teacher has been even more strongly reinforced.

Felicity feels that you are never too old to learn but it is up to you to make things happen.

Instead of wondering what the future holds, she is moulding her own and fulfilling her dream.

Felicity feels a great deal of pride in being a student at Griffith University and her children just can't wait for mum to be a 'real teacher'.

While Felicity is eagerly anticipating the arrival of that day as well she is also enjoying every new and interesting part of university life.
