Current affairs

Find an ongoing story in the media involving a leadership conflict (e.g., the recent conflict in East Timor), and get students to analyse: the background of the people involved; the context for the conflict; the cause of the conflict; the contributing factors; the different approaches to leadership of the people involved; the likely outcomes; and what might have happened if things had been different - would a different leadership approach have worked better?

Sometimes it's good to use an extract from a novel, a film or television drama for the same exercise.
