“Haiyang was a very valuable asset to the Business Development
Unit. Her personality was adored by all, and her infectious “can-do”
approach enhanced the Unit’s work outcomes. During her time with
us, Haiyang enhanced communication outcomes for the Queensland
Government by interpreting Mandarin/English conversations and
translating written documentation. She also contributed significantly
to the development of culturally appropriate promotional materials.
Her knowledge of Chinese culture and language brought a valuable
contribution to the project and assisted in building a stronger
relationship between the two governments of Queensland
and China.”

The Program

Griffith’s Global Talent Work Experience Program connects industry to emerging talent from all over the world by linking Griffith international students to professional opportunities. Working with international students is a great way to fulfil staffing needs while making an important contribution to the future of your organisation. The right international student will bring a global perspective to your team, as well as a wealth of skills and experience to support your organisation's objectives.

The Students

Griffith international students come from diverse backgrounds and cultures and have demonstrated their keenness to develop professionally by seeking an overseas education. Some have work experience in their home country and many are multilingual. Griffith offers programs to help international students understand specific features of Australian language and culture, which assists their transition to the Australian workplace.

Because Australian work experience is so highly regarded internationally, students involved in the Program are genuinely enthusiastic and motivated to make the most of their work placement. They have a global perspective and some have relevant work experience in their chosen field. There are many students to choose from in a wide range of disciplines, so there is sure to be a candidate right for you.

Useful information

Educating international students has become a major Australian industry and international talent is increasingly a global resource. To ensure the work readiness of international students and to support graduates who wish to contribute their skills to Australia, the Australian government has made it easier for international students to work here, both during and after their studies.

Entitlement to work while studying

Currently, international students enrolled in a university program on a full-time basis are legally entitled to work up to twenty hours per week. This entitlement changes during University vacation periods, when students are permitted to work unlimited hours.

Entitlement to work after graduation

After graduation, international students who meet certain criteria are eligible to stay on in Australia for eighteen months as they work towards permanent residency.
