Cadetships
An effective way to increase your potential Indigenous graduate intake is to engage students before they graduate, through Indigenous cadetships. Undergraduate cadets undertake paid work placements with your organisation throughout their degree while receiving financial support for their studies under the Indigenous Cadetship Support program, an initiative of the Australian Government. As employers you gain enthusiastic undergraduates who bring fresh ideas and perspectives to your workplace. In many cases cadets articulate into graduate employees, already acclimatised to your organisational culture and with pre-existing training. Meanwhile, cadets gain valuable degree-related work experience, enhancing their graduate employability. Cadetship completion rates strongly suggest that cadetships assist in the retention of Indigenous students both in tertiary studies and in the workplace.
To date, Griffith has placed over 200 cadets with small, medium and large employers in the public and private sectors and cadet placement outcomes and positive feedback from employers, cadets and graduates testify to the effectiveness of the cadetship program.
