Security Program

A Chinese policeman undertaking security measures

Security problems and dynamics are a priority issue in the Asia Pacific region. This region contains three of the world’s most unstable conventional security confrontations – the Korean Peninsula, the Taiwan Strait and the Kashmir issue – as well as being a major site for the operation of transnational threats such as terrorism and non-traditional security issues such as energy security.

Our security program is dedicated not only to analysing the broad range of these issues but to asking key questions about how traditional power dynamics will combine with transnational and non-traditional security issues to affect the security environment in the Asia Pacific into the future.

We also examine the evolving security architecture in the Asia Pacific region and its capacity to respond to changes in the security environment.
