China Policy Project

Changing infrastructure shows the challenges that China's growing regional influence has on the government, economy and society

The China Policy Project was launched by the Griffith Asia Institute to map the policy challenges faced by China’s government, economy and society in the coming years; the measures China is taking to meet these challenges; and the ways in which other states and societies are reacting to China’s growing regional influence.

As an initial step towards collaboration, work has commenced on an edited collection tentatively titled “China’s Challenges”. Participating scholars will be asked to write a chapter, drawing on their existing research, on the challenges facing China’s government, economy and society now and in the coming years, and the ways in which the government is seeking to respond to these challenges.

Chapters are workshopped by the China Policy Project team at a series of monthly meetings. This process is intended to better integrate the chapters into a common theme, develop the central preoccupations and focus of the volume, as well as build understandings and explore opportunities for subsequent work by the China Policy Project. It is anticipated that the China’s Challenges manuscript will be ready for submission to publishers by May 2007.
