2009 Asia Pacific Academy of Business in Society annual conference

APCSE hosted the 2009 APABIS annual conference. The conference took a forward perspective on partnerships between business, government and society and how each plays a role in addressing the key development challenges of the future.
The conference attracted delegates from around the world representing government departments, industry, NGOs and SMEs. International interest in presenting papers and case examples was unprecedented with 65 papers received from over 19 countries resulting in the conference parallel sessions being expanded to four to present 47 of these papers. Conference themes included the following:
- Long term sustainability in the face of global financial crisis (GFC)
- Extreme weather events and the impact on the Earth’s scarce resources
- Advanced technological capacity and high-speed communications systems
- Corporate social responsibility, governance and ethics
- Strategic alliances and stakeholder engagement for responsible investment
- Sustainable strategic alliance characteristics and how they influence performance
- Strengths/weaknesses, and costs/benefits of various types of strategic alliances
- Role of government and public policy in shaping business
- Stakeholder engagement to generate technologies in the agribusiness chain
- Diverse sector collaborations for human security
- Personal competencies required to develop strategic alliances
- Future of strategic alliances and stakeholder engagement in the Asia-Pacific region
- Environmental, social and governance challenges and opportunities
- Curriculum initiatives surrounding teaching of strategic alliances
