Do more with Queensland's leaders in government and international relations

Griffith's School of Government and International Relations has been at the forefront of political research and education for more than 25 years. The School brings together some of Australia's leading researchers, teachers and practitioners in the areas of political science, public policy, governance, and international relations.

We are Queensland's number one university in the field of political science, and the international reputation for research excellence of our staff means they are in high demand in industry and government.*

We are a founding member of the Australian and New Zealand School of Government (ANZOG) and are home to the Centre for Governance and Public Policy and the Griffith Asia Institute, providing students with direct access to one of the largest teams of experts in government, politics, public policy and international relations in Australia, including internationally-awarded public policy researchers and practitioners.

  • Griffith University was ranked second only to the Australian National University among Australian universities in the field of political science in an independent review based on ARC grants and high-impact articles conducted in 2010.
  • According to the 2010 ERA National Report, Griffith University equalled second in the country for the Political Science field of research (equal with the University of Queensland, University of Sydney and University of Melbourne).
  • Griffith University has been the leader in ARC grants in political science over the past 20 years. We ranked second only to ANU for ARC grants in the 2000-2012 period.
  • Griffith University ranked second only to ANU in A* political science journals and international relations journals (the largest sub-field of political science) during the period 2003 - 2010.
