Anglicare Beenleigh Youth Accommodation and Support Service

Anglicare Beenleigh Youth Accommodation and Support Service is a not-for-profit organisation offering confidential assistance and support to young people and their families during times of crisis. ABYASS provides; Short term accommodation (24 hour fully supported), Medium term accommodation; Counselling Service and Young people and parents workshops.

Department of Corrective Services

The Department of Corrective Services is committed to fostering community safety and crime prevention through humane containment of prisoners and the supervision and management of offenders sentenced to community-based orders. The Department also provides intervention services for offenders in prison and those being rehabilitated back into the community. Volunteers will usually be involved in case management, administration and observation roles.

Drug Arm Australia

Drug Arm Australia is an organization that has many services throughout Australia. Within our many services, opportunities to volunteer are vast – and not all are hands on but all are required to hold a Blue Card. Some of the services include Moshpit van (Health services support) Street Outreach Service, HART Programme and Home Visitation (Support for people dealing with substance abuse problems), Youth and Peer Leadership Programmes to name a few. As Executive Officer of Impact, I need volunteers who are able to work as Executive Assistants, in other words to undertake work across a variety of contexts, under limited supervision, generally at high levels of skill and complexity. A Blue Card is required and generally a background in criminology, law, or social sciences is useful for most tasks. Specific tasks referred to above require expertise with video equipment, computers and library management. Skills, knowledge and ability to enable performance of duties described above under limited supervision.

Lifeline Community Care

Telephone Counsellor. Counselling on the 24 hour Crisis Line.
Lifeline operates a 24 hour 7 day a week Counselling service. This service is operated by volunteers. Volunteers undergo a comprehensive training course which is offered twice a year (February and July). There are 2 options for the course; day (9 weeks) or evening (14 weeks). Upon successful completion of the course, volunteers will be required to volunteer for one 4.5 hour shift every fortnight plus an overnight shift every three months. Murrie Watch Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Corporation

Murrie Watch’s programmes include:
Diversion from Custody program provides alternate care for people into police custody or at risk of coming into custody as a result of being intoxicated; Cell visitors program provides assistance to indigenous people held in watch houses within the Greater Brisbane area aimed at reducing the risk of self harming;
Local Justice Program provides a cultural resource worker located at Brisbane youth Detention Centre;
Inner Brisbane homeless Indigenous Support Service assists with providing accommodation to indigenous people who are or at risk of being homeless. Volunteers need a Blue Card.

Protect All Children Today

Our mission is to reduce the trauma experienced by children and young people (aged 3 - 17 years) required to give evidence in the criminal courts as victims of, or witnesses to, crime. Because of the time involved in preparing a witness for court and the support needed some students may find it difficult, however we are glad to have any administration and project support that we can. Reconnect

Reconnect is a community service, based in Nerang. Reconnect works with young people aged 12-18 years old and their families. Reconnect provides family mediation, family support and life skill workshops in schools.
If you are interested in being a volunteer you will need to enjoy working with young people and have an interest in the issues faced by young people and families in conflict. You will need to commit one day a week for at least three months. You need a Blue Card and will need to attend an interview with your resume.

Salvo Care Line

Salvo Care Line is a 24 hour telephone crisis counselling and referral line.
Its key role is to alleviate immediate distress and / or redirect callers to an appropriate service to meet ongoing needs.
Salvo Care Line offers two counselling training courses a year to prospective volunteers. (Certificate III in Telephone Counselling Skills).
If a person has completed appropriate study and can demonstrate sufficient skills through interview, short answer test (on counselling skills) and role plays, the opportunity is given to gain experience as a volunteer counsellor prior to doing the course.

Southside Education

A Community Access secondary school for girls with high support needs. Our multidisciplinary team of Teachers, Youth and Family Workers, Counsellor and Vocational Education Coordinator take a holistic approach to education. Students are able to receive assistance in accessing a range of services: accommodation, centrelink, mental health, medical, childcare etc.We would require a person who is mature, flexible and responsible. It is necessary to have a Blue Card.

Volunteers in Policing

Volunteers in Policing are based in local police establishments where they work with police to address customer service, community safety and crime prevention needs in the community. The tasks that VIP’s undertake support and compliment police. Some of these tasks include:

  • Providing support to and assisting victims of crime
  • Offering referrals to other agencies
  • Liaising with community groups and participating in community-based activities
  • Conducting home security assessments and engraving property
  • Managing key holders' index for businesses
  • Participating in crime prevention initiatives - assisting police with customer service
  • Assisting with school-based crime prevention projects VIPs must meet the following criteria to pass through to the selection phase of the programme:
  • 18 years and over
  • Be willing to participate in a mandatory training programme
  • Agree to the QPS conducting a national criminal history check
  • Prepared to participate in the VIP programme for at least 12 months
  • Willing to work a minimum of 4 hours per week and a maximum of 16 hours per week.
