Why study Criminology and Criminal Justice?

The teaching of criminology in the school involves both an academic and vocational focus. From an academic perspective, the program involves a scholarly examination of issues associated with crime, and incorporates a theoretical, empirical and social policy base. From a vocational perspective, the program also has a strong applied focus and is designed to provide a professional qualification and to equip graduates with skills required to gain employment in the criminal justice system and in related areas of employment.

Exchange program

Since 1995 the School of Criminology has maintained a very successful student exchange program with the Department of Anthropology and Sociology at the Cortland campus of the State University of New York. Anthropology and Sociology offers a variety of courses, including many in criminology. Cortland is in the hilly, snow-belt, area of upstate New York, halfway between New York City and Niagara Falls. Criminology students are eligible for travel and accommodation scholarships from the Griffith International Office.
